Chris.

....et al

I too have an need for an avl reader so a few weeks ago i started one..
reading simple stuff such as unique polygon shading (or graduated shading)
appears to be straightforward (except for patterned fills) but other
thematic styles are proving troublesome (and symbol matching is not going
to be an option!)... I have managed to write an mbx that can read an avl and
make some sense of the simple stuff (ie get the core values out of it needed
to colour an MI polygon), but I am stalled at the moment because of
workload......I will keep the list updated if i make any headway if there
are any mbcoders out there who want to try this i can email the code so far
(its messy and not function rich! ;-( )...... It is true that arcview is
the best reader of an avl and certainly Bill Huber has previously suggested
that this problem is resolved with a two part program :..an avenue export
tool allied to an mbx import tool.... this would be great...(hint hint)....
but my need is also for a pure MBX solution....so if anyone has already done
this sort of thing please shout....
