You can use the Set Map statement followed by the layer and finally the
Label statement, as below:
Set Map

Layer MYTABLE
Label
[ Object ID
[ Table alias ]
[ Visibility { On | Off } ]
[ Anchor ( anchor_x , anchor_y ) ]
Text text_string
[ Position [ Center ] [ Above | Below ] [ Left |

[ Line { Simple | Arrow | None } ]
[ Angle text_angle ]
[ Offset offset_amount ]
[ Callout ( callout_x, callout_y ) ] }
I have cut and paste the information concerning the label settings from the
MapBasic Help file.
As you can see you can use the Text option to change the text value in the
label, but do remember that changes will not happen in the field in the
table and that if you need to save these costum labels you'll have to use a
workspace.
And also remember that if you pack your table you can be almost certain that
you costum labels are screwed because the use the rowid to know which record
to belong to. And when you pack the table and there has been deleted one or
several records the records after the deleted records get a new rowid !!!!
