Many thanks to Peter, Renee, Petr, Martin and Clifton for providing
solution to my query. Overall everyone's advise was the same -
replace column name to either the existing name or COL1 and it
worked! My sincere thanks to everyone.

My query was:

I had compiled several workspaces last week. When I tried to open
them this week, for some odd reason the layout views are lost and the
error message of "Variable or Field code not defined" is displayed.
I've viewed the workspaces in the MS note pad and can't find anything
wrong with them. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! Any help will be
greatly appreciated.

The solution:

>From Peter:

1. Open the workspace in a text editor, preferable one that can show
line numbers.
2. Go to the line that the error mentions and change the column name
here to e.g.. COL1 or a column that exists in the able.
3. Save the workspace.

If you haven't got an editor with line numbers search for the
"Variable or filed" (here CODE) mentioned in the error.

>From Renee:

You might want to check to see if any of the field names have been
changed. I change the filenames in notepad to col1 and that usually
works for me. It usually says, label....with field name (or if you
know of a field name that changed, change that one)

>From Clifton:

MI doesn't like tables without column names. If you have tables in
your workspace that have only the MI assigned "ID" field this may be
a problem.

>From Petr:

You must have changed the structure of your original file/files! Or
at least its display settings. Try to figure out which one has been
changed and that is the key.

>From Martin:

This usually happens when the field name of a table does not match
that used in the workspace for labelling. One way round this is to
hack the workspace to remove any references to labelling.

Many thanks and regards.
