I thought I'd share an experience I had with using MI Pro in a batch processing job yesterday. The job was buffering and clipping a large number of polygons in a table. One of the things that annoys me about Pro (at least to v6.5) is that some errors are uncatchable by a MapBasic error handler. As well as throwing an exception for any handler in place, a dialog appears which needs to be OK'ed. This is not very useful for a batch processing where there can be no user interaction. Unfortunately in this case it was difficult to identify the problem beforehand so I had to just deal with dismissing the dialogs. To do this, I utilised some additional hardware:
Equipment: 1) One coffee mug (empty). Ironically a faded ESRI mug - unsure if that's important. Method: Run MB program. Rest mug on corner of keyboard to depress the numeric keypad's Enter key. Each error message is summarily dismissed. Gently creep away as to not frighten or unsettle the mug into slipping from it's precarious position. I'd like to call this process "Pro Mugging" and hope that one day it may be recognised by the International Olympic Committee. Sometimes lo-tech rules.
