Q: How many MapInfo-Ler's does it take to tell a joke?

A: One to post it and 300 to argue endlessly over its worth to
society.

So anyone caught excessively joculating in public henceforth had
better be pretty damn funny or face the withering scorn of just
about half the subscribers here. The other half loves it, so what
to do?

IMHO, one *really good* joke a week, posted in the (usually) dead
hours of a Friday afternoon isn't going to kill anyone. The
occasional (note "occasional" means "very few") off-topic
postings aren't going to melt down your servers, either. A good
mailing list stays on topic, but tolerates -- and even welcomes
-- a bit of social interest now and then.

But if traffic is heavy, or you've posted the previous joke of
the week, or your last one bombed and the topic is being beat to
death, consider not posting an off-topic message.
