I have used MapInfo lightly in the past and am having trouble with a new
task I have. I have been given Shapefiles of roads in our area. I want to
add labels with street names to the roads. I figured I could use the
translator in MapInfo with the labeling extensions to get what I want. What
I did was:

1. Used the Universal Translator to translate the Shapefile into .TAB
2. Opened up the TAB file and use the Automatic Labeling.
3. Loaded in the labeler.exe and use the option to convert labels to text.
I created the text in the same layer as the road lines.
4. Used the Universal Translator to translate back the TAB file to a
Shapefile.

When viewing the Shapefile output, the text is shown as a point without the
text string. If I translate the output Shapefile back into TAB, the labels
come in as points.

In step 4, if I translate out to DXF/DWG, the text labels are retained and
the output looks fine.

I am pretty new to this. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the help
