I have a program that will merge as many quads as you want into a single MIF file, but the program itself is not cheap. However, if you purchase quads in our compressed format, we will provide you with a free translator that will take the quads from our format to MIF and merge as many as you want together. Also, our quads have been correctly georeferenced and had erros such as pathological sinkholes removed. We sell quads in statewide bundles and Montana goes for $350 for the entire state. The translator is free.

I am having some success with the USGS 1:24,000 DEM SDTS data. I have
successfully converted several Quads from SDTS to DEM and used Vertical
Mapper to import the grid and contour. Looks great and very detailed for my
purposes (Surface Geology).

I obviously need to merge each quad into one file to be imported and
contoured. Is there a tool out there that can help me with this? I've
tried using UNIX cat to concatenate all the files, but this did not work.

Thanks to all those whose suggestions have helped me with this Montana data.
