I have seen this problem before on a computer where the workspace and the tables were located on a Novell Server. Appearently there is some kommunication trouble between MapInfo, WIndows and the Novell server.
I way to solve it would be to use a Microsoft Client instead of a Novell Client. You could also try disabling your Anti Virus if you have one running. Whenever anyone opens a workspace be it on a 95 or 2000 client PC running MIPRO 6.5 they get a message similar to the following: Unable to open file build.id. I have checked all paths and the files are where they are supposed to be. It is a different file that throws the error each time the workspace opens however users can work ok once the error box has been OK'd. The same error is often displayed at various intervals throughout the users session and besides being a real annoyance does not seem to have any major effects on the functionality. Has anyone on the list encountered similar problems and if so what did you do to get around them?
