Nice little trick, Bill, but it does not beat having a real HOLLOW or
OUTLINE font because the body of the characters obtained in your way is not
transparent. For very large font, the total effect of transparency is best
obtained with appropriate fonts

You can look in font libraries like http://www.fontfile.com/fonts.php

As it is a recurrent, if not frequent question, I will try to set up
something on my site. Any input welcomed

Set your text color to white, turn on "halo" and set its color to
black. That will give you an outlined font.
