Hi Christian, I believe that IMG is one of raster image format; MapInfo Professional is not supporting it.
I faced this problem before and I used ArcView to save it as TIF file. When I opened it from MapInfo it asked about Projection, then it has been registered automatically. I hope this help!! Particularly - are these DEMs or are them some other type of elevation data and what is the best program to view these files in? Thanks for any help in advance.
