I am in the process of developing a "from scratch" MapInfo GIS....we have
been on ArcView since 1994, so I'm beginning from the ground up.

I have several ideas for tools (or utilities, if you will), but before I
begin development on them, I want to make sure that there is not already a
3rd party solution that I can buy and "plug in" to MapInfo. Here are the
tools I'd like to develop if I cannot find them already done; does anyone
know of a 3rd party solution that will do these?

1. A "Go Back" Tool that will keep track of MANY previous mapper extents so
that you can "go back" more than one previous view, kind of like when you
repeatedly hit the "Back" button on your internet browser.

2. An AutoSave Utility that runs silently, saving your workspace every "X"
minutes, where the user can set the value of "X"; this is standard in the
Microsoft Office products like Excel and Word.

3. A Boundary Creator tool that will take a set of selected polygons and
merge them into a single polygon, thus creating a big "outline" of the
selected polygons.

4. A tool that allows the "connection" of multiple hotlinks instead of only
a single one.

5. A "Join Tracer" utility that tells the user which tables are joined to
other tables, including full paths so that the user can go "hunt down" one
of the joined tables and edit it. This is especially important in my
department where you may have more than a single person working on a GIS
project over a period of time.
