I am trying to identify polygons that are long and thin, or strangely shaped. I thought of using a ratio between area and perimeter, but then thought that there may be a more thorough way or perhaps even a formal definition or whole field of GIS dealing with this type of problem. Any pointers?
Pointers to algorithms that may interpret the orientation of the longest axis would also be useful.
