If you use objects > Voronoi in MI PRO V7 you don't need buffers cos it
creates neighbourhoods for each of your shops!

Subject: MI-L Customer selection for shops

Hello All,

After spending to much time thinking of a solution how to deal with my
problem, I now turn to you. My problem is as follows:

We have within our organization our own shops. We selected all our customers
within a 10 km radius from our shops. But now the problem is that some
customers fall into two "shop areas" (can't find the proper English word),
because the 10 km radius we put round our shops is overlapping. In some
cases a customer falls into 4 areas, and therefor is linked to 4 shops.
(hope you can still follow me).
We want to select the shop that is closest for each the customer. Is there a
way to split up the circels into "closest to shop" areas? (I know the way
how to cover this problem on paper, but in MapInfo/Basic I really can't
think of a good way how to do this)

Or is the only way to calculate the distance from each customer to each
shop, by creating lines between all shops and all customers, calculate the
distances of each individual line, and than undouble the total file on
shortest distance. This is a way to do it, but how do I create lines between
a file with X customers and Y shops.... (for each individual customer I need
to draw lines to each shop, calculate the distances and than select the
shortest!

Is there somebody who has done this before? Is there a MapBasic file which
can help me out?
