Thanks to all -

Woody, your method works great and if you set the layout display options to
Always (thanks Jenny), the update is quickly apparent and it beats zooming
in and out to see the changes. Hopefully Mapinfo 8.0 will help the user
manage overlapping labels more effectively.

Until then...

I hate to keep on dribbling this reply in, but This works much better if you
Tile Windows from the Window Menu

Here's my trick, this will work where the labels are actual text objects,
not placed with the label tool or label checked in layer control, you can
save labels to its own layer (table) with stock "Labler.MBX".

Open the mapper window that the layout is based upon and at its proper zoom.
Go to Window>Clone View. This will give you 2 identical maps with same name
:1 and :2. In layout dbl click the frame and re-specify mapname:1. Map #1
stays at the proper zoom for layout. Map #2 becomes the detail map that you
may zoom and pan for moving the objects. While you cant stop the layout
from going to blue, when you click on it after the edit it will refresh with
new position of label at the proper zoom.

Hello,

Is there a way, in Mapinfo 7.0, to freeze the zoom level on the layout
window while still zooming in to a larger scale on the map window? I make
maps of marketing areas, which are comprised of US zip code polygons and I
have to often make adjustments to uncover some labels that overlap. I would
like to see the changes occur on the layout without having to return to
"Previous View" on the map window. Any suggestions on dealing with this
would be greatly appreciated.
