Hello

In an attempt to enhance the safety of our field workers who are often
working alone, on foot, in the countryside we tried out GPS equipped mobile
(cell) 'phones set up to relay positions (in Lat Long) by text message.
The experiment worked well and the concept was proved. The 'phones are not
inexpensive and our safety review group speculated that technology may
available that could in addition to acting as a 'phone be used as a GPS
receiver integrated with a data logger.

Ideally I am looking for single pocket portable device which could

act as a GMS cell 'phone
replace the Garmin12Xls currently used
display maps with current position
store data at current position
relay by text message positions (preferably in National grid rather than
Lat Long) to any cell phone (at specified time intervals, or on pressing an
emergency button or on not responding to an alarm)
be used continuously for a day on one set of pocket portable batteries

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received.
