Ian,

As I understand it you would only be able to use the MySQL in MapInfo to work with 
point features.  I believe this is because there is no driver available for MapInfo to 
read the geometries stored in MySQL.  How hard it is to write something that will 
allow MapInfo to read the data I do not know!
