Hi Michelle,

You're off course not thinking in terms of geographical displays, since this obviously 
involves a GIS, i.e. MapInfo Pro.

So what you basically ask is whether you can use MapBasic as a general scripting 
language.

Alas, the only MapBasic interpreter around is MapInfo Pro. And since the MBX file 
format is proprietary, it'll stay that way.
