Perhaps, one factor to consider is whether some users have the rights to change registry settings. Perhaps I'm wrong, as this is a setting that most users can change from the printer settings.
If the intention is to read the output path so that you can go and get the newly created file to put somewhere else, then this won't be a consideration. But if you want to reset the output path from the program, then this could be a factor.
BTW, on my XP machine, it is the ControlSet001 reference.
