The technique I use is when I find an object through a normal SQL statement or some other means in MapBasic, I use searchpoint with the centroidx,centroidy of the object of interest. the centroid is usually pretty close to center depending on the shape of the object. This allows me to update many fields within the object of interest with data from other tables.
