Still trying to find the root of evil for Mapinfo crashing on an XP network and trying to remove chances of clashes. Have got it working on Win200 fine. Crashes with both Version 7.0 and 7.5. Other clients use XP fine, so suspect it is something with the system security policies.
Q: where does MapInfo write all its temporary files in XP? On my machine it seems to be
C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Local Settings\Temp.
Is this the only directory?
Can this be altered by applying policies on users. Could this directory be on a server, as we think the issue is file locking on some of the temporary files as the Mapbasic routine fires off object functions and selections more quickly than you could get with a user/ menu/ mouse?
On a related matter:
I set a directory to write temporary files in a multiuser environment. Generally I give each user a unique ID based on the log in name and timestamp, and use this in the temporary file names, but to be sure, I would like to write it to a local directory.
Currently I think I use the computers temp directory as such:
gSystemTempDir = PathToDirectory$(TempFileName$(""))
Should I use their home directory instead? Can a home directory be on a server where roaming profiles are used?
