Hi Thomas! I have a couple of questions: Which MapInfo version are you running? How much RAM memory do you have? Are the (expanded) ECWs very large? Are the ECWs overlapping or aligned differently? Your sample tab file indicates this.
Recently I have been working in a MapInfo workspace containing 19 ECW each about 10 MB, corresponding to ca 70 MB in tiff format, and I have had no problems with that. But: I have 1 GB RAM in my machine All the ECWs are aligned edge to edge and in the same projection. Remember that MapInfo really cannot display more than one raster image correctly at a time. Normally, the first opened raster tab file determines the projection system MI has to use to display vector data accurately - it cannot warp or scale the image file. Take an extreme example - I once had to use two aerial photos from different flight paths flown in opposite directions. So north was up on one and south was up on the other. MapInfo did not have a chance to deal with this so I had to rotate one image in PhotoShop. I believe that different raster engines (tiff, gif, bmp, ecw and so on) might differ in their capabilities to handle such a situation. Since ECW handling includes expanding the image and not only drawing it on screen, I suspect the problem lies in differently aligned raster files. Not much help maybe, but take it as an aid for troubleshooting. They are registered, sample TAB file is: Definition Table File "Raster10.ecw" Type "RASTER" (-493286,-1276224) (0,0) Label "Point 1", (-487286,-1276224) (12000,0) Label "Point 2", (-487286,-1280088) (12000,7729) Label "Point 3", (-493286,-1280088) (0,7729) Label "Point 4" CoordSys NonEarth Units "m" Units "m" Problem starts when there are several rasters (layers) visible. In some zooms there are not displayed correctly - they are "like cut by scissors" and moved randomly. In some zooms - mostly when all rasters are displayed on screen - they are correct. It is quite random behavior... When there is only one map visible, everything seems to be correct. The same is when we put them to MapX application. We checked registration points and they are correct. In other GIS software ECWs with the same control points work fine. We would appreciate Your ideas or suggestions how to solve this serious problem. Tomas Renco ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ GAMO a.s.
