Matthew,
In the Open Table dialog box, there is a picklist ('Preferred view') which
enables you to choose how you want to view the table you're about to open.
For instance, you might want to view the attribute data in a browser window
rather than view the graphical objects in a map window. In the picklist
there is an option, 'Current Mapper' - choose this if you've already got one
table open in a mapper, and the mapper is the active window. The new table
will open in the existing map window. If you have neither table open, select
both tables (CTRL+click) you want to open and then choose 'New Mapper' in
the Preferred view to force MapInfo to open a map window with both tables in
it.
I'm afraid I can't recommend a good reference book. Earlier releases of
MapInfo used to come with a good User Guide, but I think new releases only
have the online help, which is too brief.
Regards,
Keith

Subject: MI-L Basic MapInfo Question
Dear All,
I have a couple of different maps which I wish to superimpose on each other,
although when I open them up they appear in different windows and not in the
same one which is what I would like. I guess I need to make sure that the
co-ordinates system is the same for each one, but I think I have managed to
do this and they still open in the same window. Is there anything else which
I need to do?
As a side note could anyone recommend any good books for someone who is very
competent with computers but is starting to use MapInfo for the first time.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Matthew
