Jacques,

What I do is to import the fixed length file into Access, and then
immediately export out as a comma delimited text file.

Its an OK process if I only have a few files to do, but wouldn't want to do
it for a large number of files!

Of course, you then have to delete the index column that Access assigns to a
table, but I include that as part of processes in MapInfo when I then save
the file to a native MapInfo table.
