I've had this error with MI 7.5 on a XP machine. I was printing large vector maps and when I went to check the print job the power saving settings and screen saver was active. When the machine was brought back up this error was dispayed. I exit the error message and was able to work interactive with MI. Scott Daugherty Pole Maintenance Company

Generally, we get an application error, but sometimes this message comes up before the application error. We have had no trouble on Win2000. In my case, the split function is embodied in a MapBasic program, and on further checking with print statements after each line, the error actually occurs on a selection statement. This could still be the case with MapInfo's function as it seems to write the split object into the target objects table, and deletes it afterwards (possibly neccessitating a selection). I prepared a small MapBasic App that demonstrated the problem for MapInfo tech support, and even though it reliably crashed on my and a clients machine, tech support couldn't get it to crash. Other clients also use the program happily on XP with no problems (but recently one of them started having problems as well). Because selections write a file to your user directory, we have assumed that there is some conflict with being able to write this file and that is being interpreted as a memory allocation error. But basically we don't know. Would be interested in any light you can shed, as one company has had to roll ack XP to Win 2000 as a result of this error (not happy). r On Wed, 3 Mar 2004 20:20:37 -0600, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Robert: > > I am using Windows 2000.
