Miles,
i am not aware of anything freely available for rejigging the legend of
thematic layers but if you can set up the table to 'permanently' have the
desired colours/ patterns etc i wrote a program called qik_key.mbx (on the
directions mag site) to do 'non standard' legends ... its a bit old now and
could do with a rewrite but it might be of use to you...i will also take a
look at perhaps making it use themtic layers as well.....

Subject: MI-L formatting thematic legends

Dear all,
I have a large legend from a thematic map that I want to include in a
layout, but because the legend is so large, I want to us rows and columns.
So instead of 16 stacked objects I want 4 columns of four which is
cartographically much nicer. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

yours,

Miles
