I've had similiar problem with other applications. You might try your veiw
properties.
  1.. Double click My Computer
2.. Click Tools and select Folder Options
  3.. Click the View tab
4.. Place a dot beside "Show hidden files and folders"
  5.. Click OK

Subject: MI-L VB5 application using MapInfo 6.0 on Windows 2000

  Hi All,

  I have a VB5 application using MapInfo 6.0 on Windows 2000. When I open
the application, the workspace opens correctly but then I get the following
error message in a MapInfo message box :
"Cannot access file system32 for reading. Please be sure that this file is
not open in another application."
When I click "cancel" I the VB application displays a message box with the
following error: Run-time error '-2147352567(80020009)': Cannot access file
system32.
I also get the following error in a MapInfo message box when I close the
application: "Error writing preferences file"

I do not have the source code for the VB5 application to investigate this
further, however I have explored the role that users file permissions may
play in this and have found that the application runs correctly on a second
Windows 2000 machine (with a slightly different build) that I have
administrator permissions on. Therefore I suspect that I need to alter some
permissions on the machine that I am having problems with but I have not
been able to find the correct permissions to resolve this issue.

Has anyone come across this type of error message before or have any
suggestion?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

  Thanks,

  Charlotte Delaunay
