Well, the problem is that Crystal Report can't access the data in the tab, map, dat
files, so this is why the data is exported to another format. It used to be dbf, but
this has changed to Access lately.

A way to go around this exporting would be to keep the data in a database that Crystal
Report could access directly. This could be MSAccess, SQL Server, Oracle etc.
The problem now is that yoyu'll have to deal with connecting to these databases from
within MapInfo - and solve how to store your geographical objects if you are dealing
with other types than points.
Oracle can using either Locator or Spatial store geographical objects directly in the
database. MS SQLServer can do this using the MapInfo SpatialWare add-on. MSAccess
can't.

Connecting to these databases aren't a big problem, just another way of doing things.

Subject: MI-L Crystal Reports Alternative

Dear List
Does anyone know of an alternative product to Crystal Reports? I am trying to create
a report, that calls on Mapinfo data. Using Crystal Reports from within Mapinfo seems
to merely save the Mapinfo layer or query as an Access Database, and base the report
on that. Not exactly the epitome of good data mangement.

Any alternatives or tips for improving operation of Crystal and MI would be
appreciated.

Thanks
