I use a Wacom Graphite tablet and it makes sooooo much of a difference. I have to digitize miles of lake edge shoreline so it has become indispensable. There is a bit of a learning curve and a skill set development so, if you go that way, don't get discouraged at the beginning; it can be a little difficult starting out. Good luck with it.
