This concerns export of data to the ESRI .SHP fileset - (.SHP-.SHX-.DBF +/-
.PRJ)

Although with MI 6.5 we can export to ESRI .SHP file using the UT, that is
deficient in that SHP by itself doesn't support a projection.

Is there a MB routine available to write the (ESRI-format) .PRJ file from a
loaded MI table?

(BTW there are a couple of people working on control of the UT - it would be
a useful feature of a project to include this ability)

Further question -

I discovered what everyone else knows, I guess - that SHP doesn't support
text. So what is the best procedure to get "text" (as text or labels) from
MI versions (v6.5 is of interest to me - but perhaps older versions too)
into a form that can be used by a "SHP-consuming" GIS program?

One idea I have is to put all "text" into attribute fields that are exported
into the .DBF and then read that out again within the "SHP-consuming"
program.

There are many programs that read SHP.
