The Tableinfo function can be used to query for read-only tables. Kind regards

Actually the read-only problem is not because it was from a CD - it is because it is a table based on a .txt file rather than the normal 4 file MapInfo native table. Problem still stands though - how to detect the problem gracefully so I can pop up a message box & tell the user to fix the table.
