Hi All!

Some background info:

The named view definitions (description, center x, center y, zoom value)
are written and read from a text file named NVIEWS.TXT which resides in
the MB variable HomeDirectory$(), defined thus:
Environment Definition of "Home Directory"

Windows The directory path to the user's Windows directory. This is the
directory containing Windows system files, such as SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI.
In a networked environment, each user has a private Windows directory, to
allow each user to have a unique configuration.

Macintosh The location of the user's System folder. Note: you should
try to avoid storing MapBasic application-related files in the System
folder. If you need to place configuration files in an easily-locatable
place, use the Preferences folder which is within the System folder.

And it seems that the the info is stored in an array and not written to
file until MapInfo is closed, or Nviews is exited.
>From the code (at a glance) it seems to be unimportant if more than one
window is open.

I am not sure that the Windows Directory is the right place for this
stuff, or if a text-file is the best container.
A more modern approach would seem to interactively direct the information
to a chosen directory and to store the information in a tab file instead.

But one implication of the current scheme is that it is easily done to
manually (outside MI) add lines to nviews.txt if you know the center point
and zoom scale, as for instance if you are working with map sheets.

Hlsning/ Best regards Mats.E

MI-L Named views

Hi all

I've just spent the last couple of days setting up some named views for
our
Rural Delivery areas.

Today i open up my stuff as usual, and go to add a new Named view. The 39
named views i added yesterday and the day before are gone, but some other
named views i have done are still there.

i have no idea what's happened - all the views missing were called "RURAL
MAP [number] [area]" for instance RURAL MAP 01 NORTHLAND

it's only the views that start with "RURAL MAP" that have disappeared. is
it
possible that 39 named views all with the same first 9 characters have
somehow confused MAPINFO? I've had no issues with saving files or anything
like that.

Help?

Cheers
