I also use MI and ArcGIS. I find most things quicker and easier in MI, but the organisation of datafiles is tidier in ArcGIS.
If you need network topology, then MI needs expensive add-ons. ArcEditor/ArcInfo (but not ArcView) can create/edit topology out of the box, but cost 5 or 10 times more than ArcView/MapInfo in the first place. Talking of other software, has anyone tried using Cadcorp MapModeller? Any comments welcome... We have both here, but I still prefer using MapInfo for the bulk of our work load. I am quite green with all things GIS, having dabbled in it for last 4 years and only really using it frequently in the last couple of months. I have been using AutoCAD for over 15 years and find MapInfo's drafting/display capabilities quite limited. I appreciate that MapInfo is not a CAD package and does not require all of the bells and whistles that come with AutoCAD, but is there any other GIS programs that are ahead of MapInfo in this respect?
