I thought of that, but the folders that they have set up for individual users on the network are mapped as My Documents, and the other MI users still have MI 4.1, which doesn't like either long file names OR spaces in the path. Blah, blah, blah. Ive tried about half a dozen other things, but...
Anyway, thanks for the input, I'll try the code that I got from Tim Nuteson and Photogrammetry GIU (no name given). MI-L Get userid in MapBasic Hi Gerald If the IT dictators won't allow you to use the hard drive, they should set up personal mapped network folders (E.G. my personal folder is mapped to z: drive) for every user, you could then save the files to each of your users folders. I'm amazed what these IT talibans can think of. Let's come up with more suggestions like... No users in our office are allowed to use the letters u, c, f and k on their keyboards No users in our office are allowed to run MapInfo wearing red t-shirts No users in our office are allowed to look at their screen while typing e-mail No users in our office are allowed to use the mouse middle button and so on...
