I don't know if you are open to considering other tools, but our FME
transformation/translation package can do exactly what you want done.  Among
its many facilities is a surfacemodelling package that can build a TIN from
DEM points / contour lines and then you can "drape" 2d points onto the
resulting surface and get a correctly interopolated Z value.
