Hi,

We were / are using SW for a long time and we found it very very slow, but update 5000 
records in 5 hours is too much !
Are you sure you have not any Trigger en SQLServer tables ?.
Are you updating many fields ?
Are you updating also the object ?
The link field (GEONAME) is indexed ?
What MapInfo release are you using ?. Have you taken a look if a patch exist ?
What SW relase are you using ?. We use SW 4.5 and 4.6.  Have you taken a look if a 
patch exist ?.
