I think that the answer does indeed lie in the Objects > disaggregation tool. This will be the quickest way of getting rid of the holes. The only problem will be that the holes will also become polygons. If you are manually editing the data, you can use the select in polygon tool to select out the holes. If you are doing a mapbasic automation, You could give each record a unique ID, disaggregate the objects, then combine objects using the ID column to group them again.
