I had this same problem a while ago....i ended up doing a search on the C: drive and found that the Custom symbol directory was duplicated twice...
once in: C:\Documents and Settings\apers\Application Data\MapInfo\MapInfo\Professional\700\CustSymb and again in: C:\Documents and Settings\apers\Application Data\MapInfo\MapInfo\ProViewer\700\CustSymb I opened an existing Custom symbol, edited it (using paint, simply importing the new symbol into it) i then made sure i copied the new symbol to both directories. now i'm no programmiong Whizz but to me it LOOKED simply like 2 seperate directories for MAPINFO and for PROVIEWER, but the custom symbol did not appear in MAPINFO until i had changed it in BOTH directories. (i'm on v7.0 also BTW) go figure! hope this is helpful. My custom symbols won't appear in the Custom Symbols in MapInfo. The Bitmaps are no greater than 32 x 32 pixels and all are under 1k. They are also 8 bit color format, but only contain black and white. I have even removed some of the symbols that were already in the CUSTSYMB folder, yet MI doesn't recognise this. I've restarted MI as well as the computer. Still nothing. I'm using MI 7.0. Any help would be appreciated.
