Zaini,

What you want is not a simple thing to answer. The datums known to exist
in Nigeria include Conakary Pyramid (IGN) Datum and Minna Datum. The
former uses the Guinea Lambert Zone and/or the Niger Zone, the latter uses
the Nigerian Colony Coordinates which are on a NON-Standard Transverse
Mercator projection termed "Notes of Projection" (NOP). That is a
three-belt system that MapInfo would not be able to support at cadastral
scales. Topographic map scales, maybe yes; but certainly not for cadastral
applications.

Between WWII and the middle 1950s, the French Afrique Equatorial Fuseau
system was used here and there along the borders of Nigeria with the French
colonies. That system utilized the standard Gauss-Krueger Transverse
Mercator projection, the same math model as UTM. See also the Fuseau
Dahomey TM Belt. MapInfo CAN accommodate those systems.

Also note that EACH state in Nigeria maintains their own individual
cadastres, grid systems, and regulations of practice. I have written to
all of them, none have ever replied. I would guess that some of the
cadastral systems would still use the old Cassini-Soldner projection, but I
do not have any confirmation. You can look up NOP in "Empire Survey
Review." I have no idea how you would then get that differenct projection
to work in MapInfo.

Good luck, you're going to need it!

Hello Lister,
We are currently working on Nigerian dataset using WGS84 map projection. We
would like to convert parcel/lot and topographic map using local map
projection. Can anyone let us know what is the commonly used map projection
in Nigeria. Are these map projection supported in MI 7.5

Kind Regards
Zaini
