The layout can be treated as a table, and the ID you are looking for will then be the 
ROWID. So you can loop thru all the records in the layout table, check whether they 
are of type Frame and then store the ROWIDs for these reocrds with other information 
on the frame, fore instance the width and the height and if the frame allready contain 
a map window

Hello-

Does anyone out there know of a MapBasic call to obtain ID's and information about the 
individual frames in any given layout?  I'm trying to write a program that will 
automatically populate a layout frame with the contents of a mapper, but I need 
information about the frame and some sort of ID.
