MapXtreme 2004 supports group layers and so will MapInfo Pro .NET when it's here, I
guess

Subject: MI-L Data Management by Layer Group

All,

It's a long shot but does anyone have any thoughts on the management of data layers
within groups in MapInfo? I'll try and explain a little better...

MapInfo's layer control when it contains more than 20 or so layers gets a little
tedious when trying to search for a specific layer to turn on or off. Having layer
groups that you could expand/collapse at will would be better, like...

ENVIRONMENTAL
        Hedgerows
        Tree Preservation Orders
        Wild Foul Site
ENGINEERING
        Bridges
        Structures
        Kerb
WATER
        Pipes
        Lakes
        Streams

etc, etc...

I think that ArcView operates this kind of 'legend' facility as do a number of web
apps like Autodesk MapGuide but has anyone looked at this in MapInfo, any tools
available in the community? I remember that Juan Pufleau made a stab at an alternative
to the layer control called LAYRTOOL.mbx but it basically creates a button for every
layer you have open allowing you to toggle it on and off. Its useful but not quite
what I'm looking for.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Dave
