Hi Hendrik!

There actually is a book on the very subject:

http://www.urisa.org/store/model_gis_job_descriptions.htm

It's probably US oriented - but should give you the information you ask
for plus a lot more. I have not seen it myself, only found the link on
another occasion.

A couple of months ago, Bill Thoen forwarded to this list an e-mail from
Mr Joseph Kerski on the same subject, and I quote:

"From Joseph Kerski:
I think you'll find that depending on the organization, and whether it is
government, private, or nonprofit, you'll find quite a variety in the way
they classify their GIS - related positions. Some organizations don't even

have GIS in the job title of people who use GIS daily (for example, at the

USGS, we have very few folks with GIS in their job title, yet we have
thousands of people who routinely use GIS).

A few salary links might help you with the job descriptions:

1) gisjobs.com has an ongoing, user-run salary survey online on:

http://www.gisjobs.com/survey/countries.jsp

2) URISA conducts an annual salary survey; results on:

http://www.urisa.org/store/salary_survey_2003.htm

3) You can purchase a salary from geosearch.com for $100, on:
http://www.geosearch.com/products/index.asp

4) Other surveys can be found on:
http://www.philhuff.com/scout/16/gis-salary-survey.html "

I agree with Josephs analysis at the top of the quote.

Hope this will be helpful.

Hlsning/ Best regards Mats.E
