Hi Peter, It's a smart solution you suggest, but the resulting length could be quite different from the minimum distance. Both with or without holes in the region.
I'm also aware of the proper solution - I was just hoping I had missed a function in the help file, but alas, no. I hope MapInfo Corp. is seeing this, since this is the kind of functionality that really should be in a GIS out-of-the-box. Hopefully it is not too late for v8.
