To my knowledge Mapinfo or vertical mapper cannot perform actual
operation on raster format (like extracting data or reprojecting) it can
only display them. You would need a program like IDRISI to perform such
operations. However with R2V you could create a vector format and then
do a "Region to Grid" with one (or a combination) of the attributes
created. You would then have a classified grid that you can work with
in VM.

I have never used R2V but make sure that the vector regions are defined
as regions (and not rectangles) or else VM can get confused.

Hi Peter,

I'm far from a VM expert but I think everything on the VM Layer Control
Tools menu (including Reclassify, if that was what you were thinking of)
is
in the context of having an existing grid. All I have is a registered
image.
If VM had the functionality built in, I would imagine it would be part
of
"Create Grid > Import grid...".

In the Tools menubutton on the Vertical Mapper LayerControl you have an
option to convert to classified grid. Can that help you ?

I did make a tool converting a raster map in mapinfo (not all image
types
supported) to a vector map. This vector map could easy be converted to a
VM
grid.

You can get it from http:/www.lanstorp.com called R2V under download,
some
machines it wont run on, and I don't have the time to look at it again.
If
you need it you can get the delphi/mapbasic source code, but it is very
very
messy.

Any Vertical Mapper experts know if it is possible (in the application
or
using an external utility) to convert a raster map (with a limited
number of
colours) straight in to a classified grid?
