Dave A workspace really contains MapBasic language commands. Some of these might be useful for Manifold - eg, views, queries, the layout composition, labels, and colours of this and that (styles). There's not a standard or regular *format* for things that would get saved there (but there is a sort of regular list - see below). Have a look at Chapters 2, 6 and 9 of the MapBasic User Guide, and more particularly all of this is discussed in Chapter 5 of the MapInfo Professional User Guide. There is a list of the sorts of things that get saved in the (various) WOR files - see Ch5 (in the MI 6.5 User Guide); but things have changed from version to version. Example: Printer setup was added in more recent versions (but it's better to ignore that, for your purposes). Also, v7.8 can read the new workspace file format for MapXtreme 2004.
There are some caveats - eg, from MUI v6.5 UG, Ch5: "How Renaming Tables Affects Workspaces When you change the name of a MapInfo table that is listed in a workspace, you invalidate that workspace. Table names are stored in the workspace file. If you change the name of the table, the workspace does not know how to find it." Awkward, isn't it? In the MI v6.5 UG Appendix J "MapInfo Data Interchange Format" is a good place to start. Then, open your PDF version of the User Guide and search on Workspace from the beginning, to quickly get an in-context of the complexities of when / what is saved, whether it's optional, how you can lose info, how the .WOR can become invalid.
