Hi All! I'd like to bring a question to the lists attention. This concerns users who are using localized MapInfo versions, and use indexed tab files.
Many years ago us swedish users had a problem with indexing files in MapInfo. The indexing was done according to a character set in the file MIRESxxx.DLL and back then, this character set was different in the localized (i e swedish) version from the international version. The result was that index files which had been done in the english version could not be opened in the swedish version, and workspacec containing such files failed to open. As a workaround, a couple of swedish distributors published tools to reindex tabfiles in a batch process. Then MI Corp solved the problem by including all character sets in the mentioned dll file for some versions. But now, judging from the 7.8 evaluation version it seems as we are back to square one because that fails to open the files I have indexed with my current swedish version. Has anybody else seen or noted this? A simple test would be to try to open a tab file which has been indexed with a localized MapInfo Professional 7.0 or 7.5 in an english MI Pro 7.8.
