"Use this file instead" or "Remove this layer from the Workspace?"
It has this feature... however it does not automatically search thru directories
Actually MapInfo has this feature. When you open a workspace file it
asks you for the location of the file it can not find. If you are
able to locate the location of the new file then you just have to
remember to manually save and overwrite the existing workspace file.

MapInfo automatically searches through directories set in Options >
Preferences > Directories.
