Hi Mike,

I deal with the same problem with well logs in regards to printing. I
have found the easiest way to managed the logs is in pdf format broken
over A4 pages which have no margins at the top and bottom.

Now depending on your plotter, (we use a HP500ps), you can print these
paginated a4 logs as a continuos single page by changing the print
setting in regards to removing the page margins.

I am assuming that at the moment you are creating a custom page size
like 300mm Wide x 3000mm for the length of a log when creating the pdf
file.

The "stretch" you speak off sounds like when creating the pdf, the image
is being set to "fit to Page" which would steatch the log.

Another reason to have the log paginated is you can easly print the
section of the log you require.

Also we had some of our 42" Rolls of Paper cut to the width of landscape
a4 which works really well for print long logs.

Subject: MI-L off topic-old well logs what is the "best" way to "save"
them.

About 30 years ago, we contracted & scanned all of our well files onto
microfilm. It really didn't work very well for all sorts of reasons. We
are now looking to "start over", scan all our well files again and put
on the web. We did a test project and scanned a couple of file drawers
and got back PDF's and Tiff's. Through all this, there has been a
little voice that has been screaming at me. My fear is that we maybe
headed into another dead end. We have been trying to print/plot the
well logs & haven't had much success. The scale is stretched and don't
match the originals. We have had problems printing the logs in the PDF
format (which I assume is due to a PDF size limitation).

I'm certain that others have dealt with these issues before and these
log are going to be used for correlation, what is the best format to
store them in? Can someone explain where the "stretch" is coming from
and if it can be removed?
