One thing that really can slow down things is when the workspace contains names of printers that no longer exists.
Two ways to deal with this: 1. Open the workspace and save it again with names of printers that exists. This should remove names of ancient printers from your workspace 2. Under preferences you can setup MapInfo to ignore printer settings when loading a workspace.
