Well, that was quick!! And all before tech support even got my trouble-ticket! Thanks to Dawn Woodruff, Simon Roy, Jay Russell, Cinda Graubard, Wai Chan, Brian Cowper, and Ian Erickson for all your help and suggestions. Most of you stated that my problem lay with the limitations of the dpi when printing from MapInfo. This is what Jay Russell wrote: "There is a limitation of DPI when printing from MapInfo. To get the maximum DPI setting you can use with Adobe, divide the longest side into 28000. I believe this would leave you with a maximum of 600DPI or just a little less. This setting can be adjusted in the "Advanced" button area of the printer driver." Simon Roy wrote something similar: "The MapInfo Layout cannot be larger than 28 000 pixels.
The default resolution for the standard settings in Acrobat 6 is 1200 dpi. The ANSI E paper size is 34 x 44 inches. If you are using the Acrobat standard settings with ANSI E paper size, you are asking MapInfo to print a layout of 40 800 x 52 800 pixels. By lowering the resolution in the Acrobat settings, you will be able to print larger documents. The ANSI E paper size will print with Acrobat set to 600 dpi." It was so simple. So what I did was: 1) In Layout view, I went into "Page Setup" 2) I clicked on "printer" in the page setup dialog box to choose "Adobe PDF" 3) I clicked on "properties" for the Adobe PDF printer 4) I clicked on the "Layout" tab and clicked on the "Advanced..." button. 5) In the Advanced... dialog box, under "Graphic," I changed the "Print Quality" to 600 dpi.
