Hi David,

I've not had the issues you are talking about. Mind you, I don't commonly
print anything beyond 36"x36". We have also maxed out the memory for our
plotter and we don't have a hard drive on it either.

Time wise, it takes ours approximately 5 minutes for a 36x36 map, depending on
the detail. This would be for the entire city with street labels. We have a
population of 35,000.

I have set it to process the print job in the computer, and yes it does pause
at each run across the page. I have only had to use this a couple of times
though.

Don.

Ah, someone else using a 1050c and Mapinfo. I've been hoping to run across
someone else using these two to compare notes with. I maxed out the memory
on our machine and really don't see a difference. If I print a large
(54x36) map of our county,(with labels of roads). I see processing times
(printer reports 'receiving') anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes. This is
processing "before it ever starts to print".

I tested yesterday, setting the printer config to "process in computer" as
apposed to "in printer" and found that it took less time to transmit the
data to the printer, but the printer then doesn't print very fast. (print
heads pass and print, pause, pass and print etc.)

We have not installed a hard drive to the printer.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Subject: Re: MI-L HP Designjet 1050

Hi Matt,

We use the HP 1050C here.

We use it for printing maps from MapInfo and engineering drawings from
AutoCAD. We print plain paper maps and mylars for our engineering drawings.
Changing the paper roll from one type of paper to the other isn't very
difficult (usually takes about 1 minute max).

Every now and then, someone will print something to it like a photograph and
we are impressed with the quality of the image. However we do this on
regular coated bond paper. Have never tried glossy.

If you are likely to print large files (we have had MapInfo maps of 40
megs), I would recommend adding extra memory to it.

Other than that, we're happy with it.

Does anyone have any experience of using an HP Designjet 1050 with the
3-roll feeder. If so, I would welcome comments on the following:

How easy is it to load and change paper?

Does is handle glossy media well?

How much time does it take when switching between different paper sizes?

Are there any other things you wish you had known before purchase?

Thanks

Matt
